Tolstoy!Michael
From Desperate Wiki
Name: Michael, the Archangel of the Lord
Gender: Being a Biblical Angel, is actually without gender. But due to the fact that he/it's been cast out of Heaven, is in male form.
Age: That goes for age, too. Twenty or so, if we have to get technical.
Fandom: What Men Live By
Journal: three_smiles
Typist: Soujin
Quick Biography: God asked Michael to take the soul of a lady, but when Michael got there she pleaded with him (for the sake of being clear, we're going always to call him 'him') for the sake of her two baby girls, and he told God he couldn't take her, so God threw him out of Heaven until he could learn the three things men live by. Until then, he can only smile upon learning those things. In the end of the (very wonderful) book, he succeeds and gets to go back to Heaven.
Appearance: In Angel form, although that doesn't really count, he's just a beautiful androgynous face in a body mainly made of light, with wings. In human form, he's a young man with slender, strong hands, good for making shoes, which is the trade he's been taught while on earth. He's Russian, and tends to dress appropriately.
Personality: Because he's an Angel, and doesn't really need to feel anything except veneration of and obedience to God, he kind of fails at actually understanding or using emotions at all. We know that he's capable of them, and that something was a little wrong with his wiring (frankly, he'd have been a good candidate for the Fall), because he objected to taking the lady's soul, but apart from that he's largely blank of emotions. In fact it can be a little disconcerting talking to him, because his eyes are entirely emotionless, and his face is too. In human form, he's got all the emotions available, he just doesn't know how to process and use them; this does mean that sometimes he feels them, but generally he doesn't know what they mean. He's very sure that the Angels who Fell will come back to God some day and be forgiven, so he loves them just as much as he loves other Angels. This means that he often has conversations with Lucifer. It doesn't mean the conversations make any sense.
DF Canon: In DF canon, he rooms with Hestia, who he considers an Angel because of her magical abilties (before he was humanised, he could perform healing miracles). There are some people he talks to periodically, but generally he wanders around not really understanding what's going on. He is sometimes silently and uncomprehendingly disappointed when other Angels don't remember him.
For Michaelmas, he made shoes for the community, and right now Pierre Gringoire is teaching him to read. He likes that.
He has adopted Helen Kurtzevitch and her unborn baby for all intents and purposes.
